Kareespruit is in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. The camp is 28° 35.242’S 23° 4.178’E.
The hunting areas range from flat open thornveld savannah, open grassland, rocky hills and some riverine bush.
Hunting is mainly done from March to October which tends to be cool and dry. Daytime temperatures are warm to hot, whereas at night it can get cold and a warm jacket would be needed at night. However, during the day temperatures can reach 30Â°C. The summer rains start in October till end of February. The land was previously used for sheep and cattle farming, but wild game has always occurred there naturally. They still have a small amount of live stock. There are no inhabitants on the land used. Kareespruit is on 2000 hectares and it has a boundary game fence.
All trophies taken are good quality and all effort is made to make the whole hunting experience a memorable one. Controlled culling hunts are also conducted and for a first time hunter in Africa, this is a good venue for the plains game.
The Lodge is purpose built with lounge, bar and dining room are separate from the accommodation. All the buildings and chalets are brick with tin roofs. All have en suite bathrooms, flush toilets, hot and cold water, constant electricity and fully air-conditioned. If there is a power failure they have a backup generator. There is also a swimming pool being built, a boma, satellite TV, mobile phone and free Wi-Fi coverage. A maximum of 6 hunters can be accommodated at any one time.
The distance to the closest tar road is 60km.. No lights can be seen and no vehicles can be heard. The nearest international airport is O R Thambo in Johannesburg, five & a half hours away by vehicle. However the closest airfield is Postmasburg which is a VFR, dirt 1200 meter runway approved by the Civil Aviation Authority. There is also a hospital in Postmasburg, 40km from Kareespruit.
All meals are inclusive of the price and all dinners are four course. Light breakfast followed by a big brunch is served & typically the animals shot provide the meat. All drinks except alchohol are included in the daily rate.
Two full-time trackers are employed who have been working for FM Safaris for 7 years. They also have skinners and a full complement of lodge staff
At the moment only local South African clients are catered for at a rate of ZAR500 per person per day. The vehicles are well maintained.2 x Land cruiser pick up1 x Mitsubishi pick up 1 x Landrover pick up. Kareespruit has been in operation for 16 years.
Trophies are skinned, salted and stored in separate sheds made of brick, very secure and 100% vermin proof. These facilities are well ventilated and have electric lighting. The trophies once dried are stored separately and tags are used for identification. There is also an abattoir with cold room.All the skinners have at least 2 yearsâ€™ experience. Moredou taxidermy is recommended. However, trophies can be shipped to the clientâ€™s own taxidermist of choice.
