South Africa 24°35’14.09″S 28°33’6.65″E. The hunting areas range from flat, open thornveld savannah, open grassland, rocky hills to densely wooded riverine bush. Privately owned.

Hunting is mainly done from March to October which tends to be cool and dry. Daytime temperatures will vary. Generally speaking a warm jacket would be needed at night, but during the day temperatures can reach 26°C. The summer rains start in late October and end early February.

The ranch was bought by Xavier 14 years ago and prior to this was used for cattle ranching.
are no inhabitants on this land used and it is unsuitable for growing crops.

The hunting area in Modimole, formerly Nylstroom, is 3500 hectares. Like most hunting areas in South Africa, it is game fenced as they do have dangerous game and have a very large breeding program. When driving to the lodge I saw a 44 sable as well as numerous giraffe, wildebeest and nyala. Further hunting concessions totaling 180 000 hectares are in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Botswana. If booking a hunt with them and travelling to Mozambique it is strongly recommended that anti-malaria prophylactics are taken.

Dangerous animals present? Fifty different trophy species are available, ranging from the ‘Big Five’ to a duiker, and in South Africa they have no quota. However, if hunting elsewhere there will be a limited quota. End-of-season discount hunts are also offered and the minimum hunt is seven days, but no culling takes place. Game capture takes place here and new stock is introduced to strengthen the gene pool.

The lodge is a purpose-built luxury lodge. The lounge, bar and dining room are separate from the accommodation. All the buildings and chalets are brick with thatched roofs. All have en suite bathrooms, flush toilets, hot and cold water, constant electricity and are fully air-conditioned. If there is a power failure they have a back-up generator. There is also a swimming pool, a boma, satellite TV, landline telephone, as well as mobile phone and free Wi-Fi coverage. A maximum of five hunters can be accommodated at any one time.

The distance to the closest tar road is nearly 35km. No lights can be seen and no vehicles can be heard. The nearest international airport is OR Tambo in Johannesburg, two-and-a-half hours away by vehicle. However, the closest airfield is Modlimole/Nylstroom which is a VFR, tarmac 1200m all-weather runway approved by the Civil Aviation Authority.

All meals are five star and inclusive of the price. Dinners are BBQ/Braai with starters and pudding. Breakfast is full English, and typically, the animals shot provide the meat. All drinks except spirits are included in the daily rate.
Luiperdskloof employs three trackers and two skinners full time, as well as a full complement of lodge staff.

All clients are met at the airport on arrival and dropped off on departure by the Thienponts. This service plus field preparation of trophies is all included in the daily rate. On application they offer numerous package deals and had 30 hunting clients last year.

All vehicles are well maintained and serviced regularly.

Trophies are skinned, salted and stored in separate sheds made of brick, hence are very secure and 100% vermin proof. These facilities are well ventilated and have electric lighting. The trophies once dried are stored separately and tags are used for identification at no extra cost. There is also an abattoir with cold room. All the skinners have at least 10 years’ experience and Nylstroom Taxidermy is recommended. However, trophies can be shipped to the client’s own taxidermist of choice.
