The lodge is at 22° 42.944’S 29° 55.396’E
The hunting area is at the foothills of the Soutpansberg Mountains and consists of flat open thorn veld savannah, open grassland, rocky hills and densely wooded bush.
All the land is privately owned and has been hunted on for 12 years. Last year not much hunting took place as the land in going to be under new ownership.
Hunting is mainly done from March to October which tends to be cool and dry. Day time temperatures will vary. Generally speaking a warm jacket would be needed at night however during the day temperatures can reach 26°C. The summer rains start in late October & end early February.
This land prior to this was a cattle ranch however game animals have naturally inhabited this area.
There are no inhabitants on the land used.

Bakstaan offers only plains game at the moment. Cheetah, Cape Wild Dog, Brown Hyena and Leopard are natural residents but cannot be hunted. Sharps Grysbok can be hunted in this area. Game capture does take place for Gemsbok and Water buck however none is taking place this year.
